Ginger Bug Fermented Sodas Class – Nov 28, 2017, Tues 6:30-8pm
Trout Lake Community Centre, Kitchen | $30
Learn how to make fermented sodas at home, using a ginger bug (living culture). Laura Reid of Counter Cultures will walk participants through the steps of making recipes such as root beer, ginger ale, and other seasonal sodas. This demonstrative class will provide a recipe booklet as well as a sample of delicious sodas.

Sourdough: Making and Maintaining a Starter – Jan 10, 2018, Wed 6:00-8:00pm

Back by popular demand! Learn to make sour-dough from scratch and get your own sour-dough starter to take home. Maintaining a sourdough starter can be a flexible, predictable, and very rewarding practice.

Honey Sodas – Jan 18, 2018, Thurs 6:30-8pm

Learn how to make different kinds of honey sodas, including Jun, a green tea specific kombucha. Laura Reid of Counter Cultures will walk participants through the steps of making your own honey sodas. This demonstrative class will provide a recipe booklet as well as a sample of delicious sodas

 

Sourdough: Rye Edition  – Feb 21, 2018, Weds 6:00-8:00pm

Even if you’ve never baked in your life, you’ll learn how easy it is to make your own light rye sourdough bread and fermented starter.

Kombucha Workshop – Feb 22, 2018, Thurs 6:00-8:00pm
Trout Lake Community Centre, Willow Room  | $25
Learn how to ferment kombucha at home with Laura Reid of Counter-Cultures. This informative class will provide a recipe booklet as well as the supplies to start brewing.

 

Fermented Root Beers – March 8, 2018, Thurs 6:30-8:00pm

Learn how to make fermented root beer at home. Laura Reid of Counter Cultures will walk participants through the steps of making your own natural and medicinal root beers. This demonstrative class will provide a recipe booklet as well as a sample of delicious sodas.

Fermented Hot Sauces – March 14, 2018, Weds 6:00-8:00pm

Learn to make your own customizable hot sauce from green jalapenos. You’ll learn how to make it as flavourful or spicy as you like in with this fun and easy recipe.

Wild Food and Medicine Walk – March 18, 2018, Sun 11:00am-1:00pm
Trout Lake Community Centre, Gradview Room | $20
Ever wondered which common weeds you can eat and use as medicine? In this workshop you will learn how to identify and get to know a variety of common edible and medicinal plants found growing in parks, backyards and sidewalk cracks. We will also explore the new native plant medicine wheel garden at Trout Lake Park. Participants will also learn how to make three basic herbal medicine preparations and take home their own jar of spring tonic vinegar

Willow Weaving – March 21, 2018, Weds 6:00-8:00pm
Trout Lake Community Centre, Willow Room | $20
Ever wanted to learn how to weave living fences using willow? Join us in this introductory class to learn how to make a simple living garden edging using willow. This will be a hands-on class hosted in the Medicine Wheel Garden at Trout Lake Park.
