Position Title: Food Security & Educational Programmer

Reports to: Network Coordinator

Term of Contract: June 19th to August 18th

Hourly Wage: $13/hr

Hours: 30 hours per week including some weekends (Total 360 hours)


Organizational Mandate:

To enhance the health and well-being of vulnerable populations in the Cedar Cottage neighborhood by supporting and coordinating local food security initiatives and improving access to community health, social services and community-based programs.


Description of Position:

Our educational programs work to foster a deep awareness of the local food system and building skills for our participants. The Educational Program staff is responsible for supporting all programs and prioritize our target demographics: vulnerable populations such as those experiencing multiple and intersecting forms of oppression. These include but are not limited to: those experiencing poverty, Homeless, People of Colour, Indigenous, Newcomers, Seniors, Youth, Trans/Queer community, Sex Workers, Women, and inthe more than human community (animals).


This role will work to engage these demographics using our diverse educational programs which include community kitchens, food and garden skills workshops, seed savers meet-up groups, our little cooks cooking camps for youth and the Wild Salmon Caravan.


The role will be called upon to assist other programs of the CCFN such as special events including the Wild Salmon Caravan and Harvest Festivals, food skills workshops/kids camps, and our seed library as needed. The Education Program staff will also attend internal meetings such as staff and program committee meetings, as well as the meetings for the number of committees the CCFN participates in, , work to create a promotional strategy for the network, conduct surveys and administration work as needed.


**This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program and applicants must be registered full-time students during the preceding academic year and have intentions to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year. Applicants must also be between the ages of 15 and 30, legally able to work in Canada and must complete a criminal record check prior to contract start date. **



  • Sound understanding of food security/sovereignty principles, the spectrum of food based programs in Vancouver, and barriers to food access
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of systems of oppression and how they increase barriers to accessing food
    • Experience with facilitation and iöleading workshops
  • Experience working with youth and children
  • Experience cooking and handling food
  • Knowledge of gardening/farming and comfortable leading workshops on these topics
  • Experience with volunteer recruitment, supervision
  • Must have a valid Food Safe certificate (or willingness to obtain)
