About the facilitator:

Randi-Lee Taylor
While the science of horticulture can be taught, gardening is a lifetime of learning. Randi-Lee Taylor comes from generations of life-long gardeners who came to Canada with their knowledge, skill and craft from the old world; each generation transforming their plots of land into unique garden oases. Her childhood Springs were spent side by side with her grandparents, picking more apples and cherries than her family could eat, hand clipping spent blossoms from rhododendrons and azaleas, and watching her grandfather sculpt waves of Juniper trees under her direction. Summers were spent in North Saskatchewan, picking berries and vegetables that would become the evening meal on a small farm that included a nature reserve. Randi-Lee learned the responsibilities of land and animal stewardship from original do-it -yourselfers.
The perspective offered through generations and as well as the gender of her teachers, gave her a healthy skepticism of using large heavy machinery in a garden. Made for and by men in need of a quick landscape fix, weed whackers, mowers, and leaf blowers are decades old compared to the centuries of utility provided by the old fashioned shovel, hoe, rake, snips, clips and pruners.
The owner-operator of Simply Barefoot GS has carried her childhood passion into her journeyman training—over twenty years of working side by side with master gardeners.

Accessibility: ** This workshop will be at the Copley Community Orchard. Major paths are accessible, but much of the terrain is not. ***
