Market Produce – Nov 18

 It’s been a bit of a windy week.  It’s interesting how our climate seems to be changing.  According to a United Nations report 18 percent of all green house gases is due to livestock agriculture that’s more than all the world cars, planes and all other transport put together Eek!  Perhaps we could breath a little easy this week and go a little more green with our meals or how about orange?!  I was a bit pressed for time and energy and decided this weekend to make this easy peasy carrot soup.  Check out this tasty carrot soup recipe that’s quick to put together in a pinch.

Tending The Wild – Film Screening and Acorn processing

Join us for this special film screening and knowledge share.
“Tending the Wild” shines light on the environmental knowledge of indigenous peoples across California by exploring how they have actively shaped and tended the land for millennia, in the process developing a deep understanding of plant and animal life. This series examines how humans are necessary to live in balance with nature and how traditional practices can inspire a new generation of Californians to tend their environment.

We will watch the hour long film, followed by discussion and a knowledge share on how to process acorns for flour.

The rain is here and I already saw some white stuff falling from the heavens, oh my.  I’ve been experimenting with some  water Kefir lately.  Yum a nice alternative to soda and quite a healthy one.  A healthy gut can help boost your immunity perhaps a good weapon against the wet cold season.  Water Kefir contains many beneficial probiotics and yeast such as  Lactobacillus L. brevis, L. casei, L. hilgardiim, L. hordei, L. nagelii

 Acetobacter A. fabarum, A. orientalis

 Streptococcus, S. lactis and all sorts of beneficial yeast: Hanseniaospora valbyensis, Lachancea fermentati,
Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Zygotorulaspora florentina
