Mushroom are on the market menu this week. Mushrooms have many magical health benefits. A study done by the American Society for Nutrition found that white button mushroom can help boost the body’s immune system. Mushrooms such as Crimini and Portobello are high in antioxidants, as much as other more colourful veggies like red peppers. Many varieties also contain good-for-your bladder selenium which can lower the risk of bladder cancer. Containing loads of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and vitamin B3 (niacin) mushrooms can help kick up your metabolism. Amazingly mushrooms are the only fruit or vegetable source of vitamin D. Like us humans they produce vitamin when exposed to sunlight!
