Upcoming Food Events at Vancouver Public Library

KidsZone_Page_1The Vancouver Public Library (VPL) is expanding its programming to involve different types of literacy. As some of you know already, the CCFN partners with the Kensington branch of the VPL to put on our Seedy Saturday workshops. Speaking of which, our second one of the season is coming up this Saturday, May 2nd from 11am-1pm. The topic this time is garden maintenance, which includes seed saving. Help replenish the Seed Sharing Library next year by donating what you saved from this season. Registration is still open so reserve your seat now: kccseedsave.eventbrite.ca.

Then, on May 9th at 2:30pm, the VPL will be holding a food-related Kids Zone drop-in event. The kids will be able to make seed bombs to plant in their gardens. Making seed bombs is a form of guerrilla gardening, where balls of dirt are formed and filled with seeds so that when dropped, flowers and veggie plants will grow in that spot. This would be a fun introduction to gardening for younger children.

Seedy Saturday: Garden care and seed saving – May 2

SeedySat050215Registration for the second workshop in the 2015 Seedy Saturday series is now open!

On May 2nd, 2015, the CCFN and Vancouver Public Library – Kensington are presenting a workshop on garden care and seed saving. During this workshop, participants will learn about the essentials of garden maintenance throughout the season including watering, harvesting, pest control, soil testing, and more! The instructor will also cover how and when to save seeds for next season (and to donate back to the seed library!).

Seeds will once again be available through the seed library and our donation box will be around if you have some you’d like to share with others in the community. Bring a notebook, your questions, and your appetite to learn. Although the event is free, registration is required. You can do so online at kccseedsave.eventbrite.ca or in-person at the Kensington branch of the library.

See you there!
