Market Veggies – Nov 1

Its Fall! It’s the season of crisp morning air, warm drinks and my favourite fall veggies! Our urban farm partner, Fresh Roots, are still working hard harvesting from their very local fields and as usual they who will be providing us with their amazing, delicious, fresh veggies this week. On top of that we will also be selling:

Sustenance Festival has come and gone. A great time was had by all participants at the Trout Lake Community Centre event, Harvest Dinner and Dance. Great participants, a warm meal for a cool night, and plenty of dancing made this event a success! A huge thanks to everyone who made this event possible, including Choices Market, Trout Lake (staff and pottery club), Sustenance Festival, and all the volunteers.

Upcoming Sustenance Festival Events

sustHave you heard of the Sustenance Festival? It’s a city-wide festival with local food-inspired workshops, exhibitions, talks, walks, dances and more, all taking place in community centres and public spaces throughout Vancouver. In its sixth year, the Sustenance Festival is happening from October 5th to 19th.

Cedar Cottage Food Network has two events comping up that are part of Sustenance. As well, our urban farm partner, Fresh Roots, is teaming up with the South Vancouver Food Network to put on an event. Here are the details:

October 17, 2014 from 6-8pm – Harvest Dinner and Dance at Trout Lake Community Centre
Bring the family for a fun filled evening of dancing to live square dancing music and eating a delicious hearty soup (made by CCFN staff and volunteers!) and fresh bread for dinner. The $6.50 admission fee includes: a bowl of soup, fresh bread, beverage, and a beautiful pottery bowl made and donated by the Trout Lake Pottery Club to eat from. Yes, you get to take it home! Enjoy making arts and crafts at the supervised teen station. Registration here.

October 18, 2014 from 2-4pm – Mobile Produce Market at Kensington Community Centre
The mobile market was so popular at this location over the summer that we’re continuing it into the fall and winter months. Find mostly local and organic vegetables and fruit at affordable prices. We’re at Kensington the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 2-4pm.

October 18, 2014 from 3-6pm – South Vancouver Community Harvest Festival at David Thompson School Farm
Join Fresh Roots and South Vancouver Food Network for an afternoon of harvest exuberance and a celebration of the South Van community. Activities will start at the farm at 3pm and include a Fresh Roots veggie market, pumpkin carving, apple pressing, farm tours, and lantern making. You are also invited to share a bowl of hearty harvest stew  and cast your vote in a multicultural dessert contest (or enter your own!), or simply bring a blanket and watch the action unfold. Registration here.

Market Veggies – Oct 11

With Thanksgiving just around the corner it’s a perfect time to slow down, reflect, and express gratitude for all that is amazing in our lives. The CCFN Mobile Markets has had an amazing summer and we owe a huge thanks to our community. So thank you to every shopper, member, community partner, volunteer and to our Farm Partners!
